BALLROOM JIVE
The Jive originated in Harlem in the 1920s when the Lindy Hop was combined with elements of the Breakaway and the Charleston. A number of groups attempted to ban the dance because, unlike other dances, the jive was not progressive around the room and Jive couples were thought to get in the way. by the mid 1930s the new style of dance was included in New York’s premier dance competition, the ‘Harvest Moon Ball’, and proved very popular.
